The Academia de Produtores Culturais has a new and ambitious socio-cultural development program on its hands. This is the program of artistic intervention and response to climate change, FÔLEGO. Taking place between 2021 and 2023 in five municipalities in central Portugal: Mação, Oleiros, Proença-a-Nova, Sertã, and Vila de Rei.
Co-financed by the aforementioned municipalities, EEA Grants Portugal, and the Direção Geral das Artes. The public presentation took place on October 22nd, at the National Museum of Theatre and Dance, in Lisbon, and the speakers were Rita Sousa Guerreiro (Vice-president of our association) and our collaborator, Henrique Costa Santos.
FÔLEGO is an artistic intervention project with an impact on the development of audiences in 5 municipalities: Mação, Oleiros, Proença-a-Nova, Sertã and Vila de Rei, bringing closer and strengthening relationships between their populations, privileging artistic intervention methodologies that start from work with the community.
This is a geographic area of low population density but with great wealth in terms of natural heritage, namely forest areas and fluvial beaches, which invite the realization of various artistic initiatives that will contribute to the enhancement of resources and customs, stimulating social, cultural, and business growth, and counteracting the desertification of this territory. The careful recognition of the information that the terrain gives us, through a careful reading when circulating in its spaces and times, will be the starting point for the creation/programming of a diverse range of proposals in the areas of theatre, music, video, new circus, photography, dance, and plastic arts. The arts will work as a catalyst for the development of endogenous publics, ensuring their participation in both creative processes and the fruition of artistic objects, as well as in training activities. Local | national | foreign artists and the population will take a breath of fresh air, igniting relationships and sharing moments of symbiosis between new and old knowledge, around the theme of climate change. FÔLEGO will combine arts, science and environment not only from a conceptual point of view but also by raising awareness and involving the population, inspiring, motivating and promoting behaviours based on increased social and environmental awareness.
